The Salpointe Catholic Lancers will head out on the road to face off against the Saguaro Sabercats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Salpointe Catholic will be strutting in after a win while Saguaro will be coming in after a loss.
Salpointe Catholic never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Mountain Pointe last Friday. They walked away with a 35-26 victory over the Pride.
Salpointe Catholic relied on the efforts of Richard Rivera, who rushed for 69 yards on only five carries, and Jaxson Banhie, who rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Dinos Drossos made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Saguaro faced Liberty in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Saguaro took a serious blow against Liberty on Friday, falling 31-3. Having soared to a lofty 38 points in the game before, Saguaro couldn't push the score so high this time.
Salpointe Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Saguaro, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
Salpointe Catholic was taken down by Saguaro 49-21 in their previous matchup back in October of 2021. Can Salpointe Catholic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
