Pequot - South recap October 1, 2013
Hyde Leadership and Granby Memorial played the closest game in Pequot - South this week, with Hyde Leadership eventually emerging with a 6-0 victory. Dwayne Hunter-parker ran for 176 yards in the win.
Morgan took down Windsor Locks/Suffield/East Granby 43-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jake Ward ran for 234 yards and caught 1 pass for 30 yards during the win.
Ward was a beast in the backfield as the Huskies topped the Wildcats.
Eddie Miller was a passing and rushing force as North Branford beat Gilbert-Northwestern Regional. He completed 8 passes for 172 yards and also ran for 94 yards. Miller's favorite target this week was Austin Calamita, who caught 5 passes for 136 yards.
Alex Lipka put up the best numbers in passing as Morgan bested Windsor Locks/Suffield/East Granby. He finished with a total of 9 completions for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Thunderbirds' Miller and Calamita have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Miller has thrown for 381 yards this season, while Calamita, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 10 catches for 273 yards. Mike Eagle's team's Ward leads the league in rushing yards with 678.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when North Branford takes on Old Saybrook-Westbrook. Mark Basil's team is currently in second, while the Rams are in fifth.
The Huskies made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,125 from 7,710. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 43-6 victory over Marty Powers' team last week.
