If the MaxPreps state rankings hold true, the near future looks bright for Shafter. On Friday they take on Taft at 7:30 PM. Shafter are cruising in on a five-game winning streak while Taft are stumbling in off of three consecutive losses.
Shafter put the finishing touches on their 4th blowout victory of the season last Friday. They took the game and then some with a 57-7 victory over Chavez. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-0.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 0-35, which was the final score in Taft's tilt against Kennedy. Taft were in a tough position by the half, with the score sitting at 0-21.
Shafter's win lifted them to 5-0 while Taft's defeat dropped them down to 2-3. In their win, Shafter relied heavily on senior Alex Aguilar, who passed for 338 yards and 4 touchdowns. Taft will need to find a way to minimize his impact if they want to win.
