Football Recap: Rowan Martin Key Part of Team Effort in Paladins Win

Paramus Catholic's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They came out on top against the Delbarton Green Wave by a score of 34-21. The high-scoring effort was just what the Paladins needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Paramus Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rowan Martin, who rushed for 110 yards and one TD on only 15 carries, and also threw for 195 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 passes. Those 110 rushing yards gave Martin a new career-high. Chukwuma Odoh also helped out as he racked up 146 rushing yards.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Paramus Catholic proved: they limited Delbarton to a paltry 2.3 yards per carry. While two picked up at least five total tackles, Jordan Moreta stood above the rest. He made five total tackles (1.0 for loss) and snagged an interception. Paramus Catholic didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.7.

Delbarton's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grant Van Raaphorst, who picked up 129 receiving yards and one score. Another player making a difference was Gavin Gilardi, who threw for 189 yards and a pair of TDs on only 15 passes.

Paramus Catholic's record is now 4-6. As for Delbarton, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Paramus Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Delbarton, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on St. Joseph Regional at 1:00 p.m. on the 15th. The Green Knights will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Green Wave surely won't give up without a fight.
