The Hueytown Golden Gophers will be home for the holidays to greet the Gardendale Rockets at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Hueytown entered their tilt with Brookwood with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Hueytown blew past Brookwood 75-31 at home. That 75-31 margin sets a new team best for Hueytown this season.
Hueytown can attribute much of their success to Tyler Agee, who scored 17 points, and Braylon Patton, who scored 19 points. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Patton has scored at least 25% of Hueytown's points. Derryck Patton was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Meanwhile, Gardendale was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 61-56 to Carver Birmingham. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Gardendale came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Carver Birmingham is ranked 201st).
Hueytown's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points per game. As for Gardendale, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.
Hueytown didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Gardendale when the teams last played back in November, but they still walked away with a 72-66 win. Does Hueytown have another victory up their sleeve, or will Gardendale turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
