It's playoff time, and Tupelo had no trouble coming through when it counted. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 21-20 win over the Oxford Chargers. The victory was familiar territory for the Golden Wave, who have now won nine matchups in a row.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Jaeden Hill and Kylan Bobo. Hill rushed for 172 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.5 yards per carry while Bobo rushed for 102 yards and a pair of scores. Hill's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 120 rushing yards. Braylen Williams helped out on the ground, rushing for 82 yards.
Tupelo was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 357 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 222 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
One reason for the win was Tupelo's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was Josh Stanfield with two.
Despite the loss, Oxford saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Knox Kiffin threw for 178 yards and three TDs on only 16 passes.
Tupelo's win bumped their record up to 13-1. As for Oxford, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-2.
Looking ahead, Tupelo will head out on the road to take on Gulfport at 7:00 p.m. on the 6th. The Golden Wave will need to watch out since the Admirals have now posted at least 31 points in their last ten contests. Oxford does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
