The Millbrook Wildcats pushed their score all the way to 61 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of New Hanover by a score of 64-61. While losing is never fun, Millbrook can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while New Hanover is ranked tenth).
Colt Langdon and Alex Olander certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Langdon scored 24 points, while Olander scored 18 points. Langdon scored a full 39.3% of Millbrook's points, the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
New Hanover's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nolan Billings, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Crittenden, who scored 18 points.
Millbrook now has a losing record at 3-4. As for New Hanover, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
Millbrook will take on Riverwood in a holiday battle at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at. Riverwood knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Millbrook likes a good challenge. New Hanover will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Clayton at 6:00 p.m. on December 28th.
