Augusta Christian was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Cardinal Newman. The Lions came in at 20 in the state poll after placing at number 40 last week.
Augusta Christian extended the longest winning streak in SCISA AAA this week by beating the Cardinals, 51-6. The victory was the 11th in a row for the team.
The Lions' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tyler Roberson threw for 154 and one touchdown and Nick Fortenberry had 79 yards receiving. On the ground Thomas Banks chipped in 146 yards. Banks helped Augusta Christian's passing attack out by catching three balls for 55 yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback Kody Watson of Cardinal Newman is the league leader in passing yards this season with 2144. He has also thrown 13 touchdowns. On the ground, Augusta Christian's Banks has rushed for 1258 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Fortenberry. The Augusta Christian star has 42 catches for 909 yards.
Accruing a total of 16 touchdowns this year, Roberson has thrown for 1800 yards with four interceptions.
Wilson Hall's Jay Goodson needs only 39 yards against Hammond next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 163 carries Goodson has accumulated 961 yard this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Barons take on the Skyhawks. As it stands, Wilson Hall is in third, while Hammond is in second.
Orangeburg Prep and Porter-Gaud played the most hotly contested game in SCISA AAA this week, with Orangeburg Prep eventually emerging with a 17-14 victory.
