The Illiana Christian Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 20 points or more this season. They were the clear victor by a 66-46 margin over Chicago Christian. Given Illiana Christian's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 217th in Indiana, while Chicago Christian is ranked 512th in Illinois), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Illiana Christian to victory were Andy Spoelman and Isaac Sherwood. Spoelman scored 13 points along with six assists and four blocks, while Sherwood scored 23 points. Those six assists set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Jake Scott, who scored seven points.
The win was the third in a row for Illiana Christian, bringing their record for this year to 4-3. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 24.67 points. As for Chicago Christian, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Illiana Christian will be home for the holidays to greet Timothy Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Timothy Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday. Chicago Christian and Universal will face off at 6:30 p.m. on December 22nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Universal is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
