Football Recap: Central Extends Winning Streak to Three

Central extended their winning streak to three on Saturday, bumping them up to 6-1. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 34-28 W against the Southridge Spartans. That's more bragging rights for the Rockets, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Central's defense made their presence known, laying out James Perrone four times. Southridge's QB won't forget Jakhi Barber anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Central got some further help from Louisden Paul: he made 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss) and defended two passes.

Having lost for the first time this season, Southridge fell to 8-1. They were up 14-0 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Southridge's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Perrone, who rushed for 47 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 213 yards and one TD. Travis Gamble Jr was another key rusher, rushing for 82 yards and one touchdown.

Central didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 39-0 victory against Somerset Academy on the 24th. As for Southridge, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on South Dade at 6:00 p.m. on the 31st.
