The Canyon Comanches have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 21 points or more this season. Everything went their way against Capistrano Valley on Wednesday as Canyon made off with a 60-39 win. Given Canyon's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while Capistrano Valley is ranked 280th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Canyon's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josh Goodall, who scored 21 points. That's the first time this season that Goodall scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Staf Yilmazturk, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 19 rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Canyon and bumps their season record up to 6-2. As for Capistrano Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Canyon is on the road again on Friday and play against Pilibos at 6:00 p.m. on December 15th. Pilibos knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine games -- so hopefully Canyon likes a good challenge. Capistrano Valley will take on Edison in a holiday battle at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at.
