Mount Calvary Christian is 10-0 against New Covenant Christian since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Mount Calvary Christian Chargers will head out on the road to challenge the New Covenant Christian Flames at 7:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Pennsylvania (Mount Calvary Christian is ranked 513th, while New Covenant Christian is ranked 526th).
Mount Calvary Christian lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Thursday was a bit more commanding. They were the victim of a rough 81-58 loss at the hands of Lancaster Country Day. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Mount Calvary Christian has suffered yet this season.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Josiah Masters, who scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Avery Kopcha was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, New Covenant Christian waltzed into their contest two weeks ago with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Covenant Christian Academy by a score of 53-41.
Tycen VanDerPloog continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Balsbaugh, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Mount Calvary Christian and nudges their season record down to 6-8. As for New Covenant Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Mount Calvary Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 30.4 rebounds per game. It's a different story for New Covenant Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 33.7 rebounds per game. Given Mount Calvary Christian's sizeable advantage in that area, New Covenant Christian will need to find a way to close that gap.
Mount Calvary Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over New Covenant Christian in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, winning 58-50. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mount Calvary Christian since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
