Austin-East is 2-8 against West since December of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Austin-East Roadrunners will be playing at home against the West Rebels at 6:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Monday, Austin-East came up short against Knoxville Central and fell 60-49.
Austin-East's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ja'onna Witt, who scored 18 points along with 6 rebounds and 6 steals, and Tymirrianna Brown who scored 14 points along with 7 rebounds and 7 steals. Witt scored a full 36.7% of Austin-East's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keiara Johnson, who scored 4 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 steals.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 64-7, which was the final score in West's tilt against Campbell County last Monday. West has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Austin-East's victory lifted them to 1-1 while Knoxville Central's defeat dropped them down to 1-2.
Austin-East didn't have too much breathing room in their match against West in their previous matchup back in February, but they still walked away with a 48-44 victory. Will Austin-East repeat their success, or does West have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
