Robinson hasn't had much luck against Alonso recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Robinson Knights will take on the Alonso Ravens at 7:00 p.m. Robinson's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Alonso's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Robinson easily dispatched Freedom last Saturday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Robinson fell just short of Steinbrenner by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Knights have suffered against the Warriors since April 17, 2018.
Robinson saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Samuel Hyman, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Cason Cooper also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Alonso never let their opponents score on Saturday. They came out on top against Sumner by a score of 10-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The high-scoring effort was just what the Ravens needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
The team relied heavily on Alvin Santiago, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI and one run. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Johnny Rodriguez, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Alonso hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.
Alonso's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Robinson, their loss dropped their record down to 6-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Robinson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Alonso struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Robinson suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Alonso in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Robinson avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
