Baseball Recap: Pleasant Grove Wins Going Away Against Layton

Pleasant Grove had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Layton on Monday. Pleasant Grove blew past Layton 10-4. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won four matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Maddux Webb looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Pleasant Grove let Drew Smith and Mason Hawk Henry run wild. Smith scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Henry went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. What's more, Smith posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Kale Dunn was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

Pleasant Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Layton only posted a batting average of .091.

Pleasant Grove pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Layton, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pleasant Grove will venture away from home to square off against Maple Mountain at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Layton, they will take on Foothill in a tournament on Wednesday.
