Pittston hasn't had much luck against Delaware Valley recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Patriots will square off against the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Brody Spindler and Michael Iuzzolino.
On Friday, Pittston lost to Wyoming Area on the road by a 41-22 margin. While the Patriots didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Warriors 15-6 in the first quarter.
Pittston might have lost, but man, Lucas Lo Presto was a machine: he rushed for 76 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries, and also picked up 43 receiving yards. Lo Presto got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 75 yards.
Meanwhile, Delaware Valley blew past Scranton, posting a 49-19 win. Considering the Warriors have won three matchups by more than 20 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Pittston better keep an eye on Devin Estevez. He was instrumental in Delaware Valley's win, rushing for 82 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries. The dominant performance also gave Estevez a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Colin McGarvey was another key player, throwing for 164 yards and one TD while completing 73.3% of his passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Delaware Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 205 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 158 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
One reason for the win was Delaware Valley's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Chris Renna was especially locked on to Scranton's QB and sacked him twice. Delaware Valley received some extra help from Lucas Purdon, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Pittston's defeat dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Delaware Valley, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Pittston has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 232.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Delaware Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 230.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Pittston might still be hurting after the 38-15 loss they got from Delaware Valley when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Will the Patriots have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other football content.
