Even though the Zuni Thunderbirds scored an imposing 57 points on Tuesday, the Newcomb Skyhawks still came out on top. Newcomb walked away with a 64-57 win over the Thunderbirds. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Newcomb.
It was another big night for Mikal Ashley, who scored 23 points along with two steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. Another player making a difference was Savier Thomas, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Newcomb has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Zuni, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newcomb will square off against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Navajo Prep has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 619 points over their last eight games. As for Zuni, they will head out on the road to square off against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Tohatchi will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
