After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Archbishop Hoban, the Holy Name Green Wave were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They came out on top against Westlake by a score of 80-67. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, Westlake had strong showings from Ryan Turk, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and two steals, and Derek Occhipinti, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Turk is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Evan Hargett, who scored 12 points.
Holy Name is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. As for Westlake, they now have a losing record at 8-9.
Holy Name is on the road again on Friday and plays Valley Forge at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Valley Forge is coming into the game with nine straight defeats at home, meaning Holy Name will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. Westlake will take on Elyria Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Westlake knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Elyria Catholic likes a good challenge.
