The Alhambra Lions will be playing at home against the Copper Canyon Aztecs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Friday, Alhambra was the victim of a rough 38-16 loss at the hands of Washington.
Despite their defeat, Alhambra saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Isaiah Rwanyamugabo, who rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown, was perhaps the best of all.
Meanwhile, Copper Canyon's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 50-8 loss at the hands of Estrella Foothills. Copper Canyon was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-0.
Alhambra's loss was their tenth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.3 points per game. As for Copper Canyon, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.
Alhambra took a serious blow against Copper Canyon in their previous matchup back in September of 2021, falling 27-0. Thankfully for Alhambra, Derrick Sailor (who rushed for 59 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries, and also picked up 43 receiving yards) won't be suiting up this time.
