On Saturday, the Scammon Bay Eagles faced the Hooper Bay Warriors in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Scammon Bay walked away with a 67-59 victory over Hooper Bay. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Scammon Bay's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Stewie Sundown, who scored 20 points. Another player making a difference was Dallas Kaganak, who scored 17 points.
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Latrell Lake, who scored 23 points. Lake's trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Carson Long was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Scammon Bay has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. As for Hooper Bay, their loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Scammon Bay will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Non Varsity Tournament Opponent at 4:30 p.m. on January 25th. One thing working in Non Varsity Tournament Opponent's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches. As for Hooper Bay, they will head out on the road to take on Unalaska on Thursday.
