The Desert View Jaguars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their 13th straight loss. They were outmatched by Nogales on the road and fell 62-14. Desert View has not had much luck with Nogales recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Despite the loss, Desert View saw an underclassman step up: Addison Brown scored nine points. Brown is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight.
Nogales got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Cecilia Burruel out in front who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Burruel hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Rodriguez, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Desert View's loss was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-20. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 12.1 points per game. As for Nogales, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-11 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Desert View will take on Nogales at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Nogales will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for they, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Salpointe Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th. Averaging 60.1 so far this season, Salpointe Catholic's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Nogales better be ready for a challenge.
