Softball Recap: Bristol Eastern Beats Northwest Catholic for Their Fifth Straight Win

Bristol Eastern put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Northwest Catholic Lions a 19-0 shutout. That 19 run margin sets a new team best for the Lancers this season.

Hailey Beebe and Leah Webber made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Beebe struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Webber tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Beebe has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Beebe went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBI, while Webber went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Corinne Sutula was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lyla Wegiel, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Bristol Eastern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .364 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Bristol Eastern pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Northwest Catholic, they are on a 19-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Bristol Eastern is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will take on Newington at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Nor'easters have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.75 runs per game on average), something the Lancers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Northwest Catholic, they will face off against Avon at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
