The Glendora Tartans will take on the Duarte Falcons at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Things were looking good for Glendora after they put the first points on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 17-8 to Arcadia. The Tartans have struggled against the Apaches recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Ayva Cabuena led a balanced group of hitters, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She also put up a stolen base, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Bowers, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Even though they lost, Glendora kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Duarte got the win against Polytechnic on Tuesday by a conclusive 15-9.
Alyssa Garcia was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up seven earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Emily Ramirez and Valeria Nunez did most of the damage at the plate: Ramirez scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Nunez scored three runs while going 3-for-4. What's more, Nunez posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Kyra Diaz was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.
Duarte now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Glendora, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Glendora hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Duarte struggles in that department as they've averaged .354. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
