The Gulf Shores Dolphins will take on the Mobile Christian Leopards at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gulf Shores is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
While Gulf Shores' win against Elberta wasn't quite the blowout they won the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Gulf Shores sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over Elberta on Friday. The Dolphins haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
John Will Nix looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Gulf Shores' victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jacob O'Bryan, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Tres Moore also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Mobile Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of IMG Academy Gray. The matchup marked the Leopards' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Maddox McKinion was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Damian Gatson was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Gulf Shores pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Mobile Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gulf Shores has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mobile Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Gulf Shores came out on top in a nail-biter against Mobile Christian in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, sneaking past 8-6. Does Gulf Shores have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mobile Christian turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
