HOLLISTER, Calif. -
Palma (Salinas, Calif.) extended its winning streak to seven games with a 31-14 victory over
San Benito (Hollister, Calif.) on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Brandon Olivares touchdown run in the first quarter, the Chieftains led 24-0 at the half.
Palma expanded its lead to 31 points entering the fourth quarter. PHS's lone score in the quarter came on a defensive touchdown.
David Stanton played well for the Haybalers. The junior quarterback ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored six touchdowns on the season.
Olivares stood out for the Salinas school in the win. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns.
The Chieftains went into the matchup giving up only 16.3 points per game. San Benito's 14 points were well below its season average of 28.7 per game.
The victory will ease some of the sting of Palma's close 13-12 loss to SB last season.
The defeat comes as a step back for San Benito, which notched a 43-13 victory over Everett Alvarez in its previous outing. The loss snapped the Hollister school's 3-game winning streak.
