Newcomb is 2-8 against the Eagles since December of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Newcomb Skyhawks will head out on the road to take on the Navajo Prep Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Tuesday, Newcomb beat the Thunderbirds 64-57. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Newcomb.
Mikal Ashley was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with two steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games he's played. Another player making a difference was Savier Thomas, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Navajo Prep waltzed into their game on Tuesday with five straight wins but they left with six. They blew past Crownpoint 88-16 on the road. Navajo Prep has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 20 points or more this season.
Newcomb is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Navajo Prep, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-4.
Newcomb suffered a grim 66-46 defeat to the Eagles in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Newcomb avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
