The Staunton River Golden Eagles will face off against the Jefferson Forest Cavaliers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Staunton River will bounce into Saturday's contest after beating Christiansburg, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. Staunton River put the hurt on Christiansburg with a sharp 15-9 win on Wednesday.
Kailynne Keister was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Keister was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaylee Maxfield, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Jaidyn Roach was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Jefferson Forest put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Gretna get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. The Cavaliers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by six runs or more this season.
Mati Gouldthorpe was incredible, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Ashleigh Johnson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Jefferson Forest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gretna only posted an OBP of .167.
Jefferson Forest's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0. As for Staunton River, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Staunton River came out on top in a nail-biter against Jefferson Forest in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 9-7. Does Staunton River have another victory up their sleeve, or will Jefferson Forest turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
