AAAAA Region 6 recap October 29, 2013
Dunwoody scaled the state rankings by moving to 269 from 298 this week, the biggest jump in AAAAA Region 6. The Wildcats climbed the ranks as a result of topping North Atlanta 29-0.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Tucker beat Miller Grove 55-12. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Tigers.
Mays's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ayinde Russell threw for 195 and 2 touchdowns and Tyshawn Brown had 135 yards receiving. On the ground Russell chipped in 67 yards. Deparis Carter helped Mays' passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 37 yards.
He was 8-14 with 0 interceptions.
Brown was the best receiver in the league this week as the Raiders defeated Lakeside. Brown racked up 4 receptions for 135 yards. Carter helped Mays' passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 37 yards.
Mays' Russell and Brown have formed a dream team this season, leading AAAAA Region 6 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback Russell has thrown for 1,314 yards this season, while Brown has 25 catches for 474 yards. Kellyen Walker from the Vikings leads the league in rushing with 567 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Corey Jarvis' team takes on Stephenson. The Raiders' offense has racked up 255 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Jaguars have allowed only 76 on the year.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when M.L. King takes on Tucker. As it stands, the Lions are in fourth, while the Tigers are in first.
Tucker took down the Wolverines 55-12 last week, the largest margin of any game.
