The Sundance Bulldogs and the Moorcroft Wolves will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Saturday, Sundance lost to Tongue River on the road by a 41-27 margin. The contest marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Despite their loss, Sundance saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jaylin Mills, who posted 13 points and eight rebounds, was perhaps the best of all.
Meanwhile, Moorcroft was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They took a hard 47-32 fall against Niobrara County. The match was a 22-22 toss-up at halftime, but the Wolves couldn't quite close it out.
Sundance will have to keep a close watch on Talia Vargas and Lani Gill, a pair of players who had a big impact on Moorcroft's prior game. Vargas earned nine points and eight boards, while Gill put up seven points and three steals. Gill is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played.
Even though they lost, Moorcroft smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.
Moorcroft's loss dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Sundance, the defeat was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 11-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Sundance has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Moorcroft struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Sundance against Moorcroft when the teams last played on Friday, as the team secured a 57-18 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sundance since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
