The Penfield Patriots will face off against the McQuaid Jesuit Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Penfield has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Penfield will face McQuaid Jesuit after dropping another heartbreaker against Webster Schroeder on Wednesday, which marked the second time in a row the team's come within 2.1 of beating them. The Patriots fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 4-3. The Patriots haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Penfield saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joey Bianchi, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Matt Scibienski was another, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McQuaid Jesuit). They were the clear victors by a 12-4 margin over Webster Schroeder on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Knights with their most commanding win of the season.
Issac Stella tossed a big game, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because McQuaid Jesuit is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-3 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Paul Rizzo, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Zach Craib, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one run.
McQuaid Jesuit always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win got McQuaid Jesuit back to even at 4-4. As for Penfield, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
Penfield couldn't quite finish off McQuaid Jesuit in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 6-4. Will the Patriots have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
