They managed a 60-55 victory over Freedom Christian Academy. Given Cape Fear Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while Freedom Christian Academy is ranked 347th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cape Fear Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kareem Anderson out in front who scored 16 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Anderson has scored at least 25% of Cape Fear Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Vega, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, Miller School of Albemarle strolled past Woodmere Academy with points to spare last Sunday, taking the game 63-45. The win made it back-to-back wins for Miller School of Albemarle.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Miller School of Albemarle to victory, but perhaps none more so than Reece Hagy, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was Hagy's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Crotty, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Cape Fear Academy's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Miller School of Albemarle, their win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2.
Thursday's matchup is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Cape Fear Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 26.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Miller School of Albemarle, though, as they've been averaging only 29.6 rebounds per game.
