The Davie War Eagles put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 65-56 victory over R.J. Reynolds. Given Davie's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while R.J. Reynolds is ranked 221st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Davie to victory were Jackson Powers and Bryson Mickey. Powers dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Mickey shot 4-for-5 from deep and dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Powers has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last seven times he's played. Coleman Lawhon was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Davie pushed their record up to 15-0 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home. As for R.J. Reynolds, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Davie will take on West Forsyth at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. West Forsyth knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Davie likes a good challenge. As for R.J. Reynolds, they will be playing at home against Mount Tabor at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Mount Tabor is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
