It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Middle College Bulldogs ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 62-59 win over Fayette Ware. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Middle College found their leader in underclassman Gabrielle Rudd , who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 13 rebounds. Rudd is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiya Mell , who scored 12 points along with six steals and five assists.
When it comes to explaining why Fayette Ware lost, one person who can't be blamed is Markala Terry. Despite the final result, she scored 28 points. Terry scored a full 47.5% of Fayette Ware's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Markea Herron was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Middle College pushed their record up to 14-2 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points per game. As for Fayette Ware, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.
Middle College will take on Manassas at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Manassas comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Fayette Ware, they will be playing at home against Memphis Home Education Association at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
