There's no place like home for the Bonita Vista Barons, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Monday. They claimed a resounding 61-28 win over Steele Canyon at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Bonita Vista has posted since November 25, 2023.
Bonita Vista found their leader in underclassman Bayanai Cordova, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Cordova has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mahliya Wilson, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Bonita Vista is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-11 record this season. As for Steele Canyon, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-7.
Bonita Vista will be playing at home against Eastlake at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Eastlake will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 496th, while Bonita Vista is ranked 180th). As for Steele Canyon, Steele Canyon and El Cajon Valley will face off at 5:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully El Cajon Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Saturday.
