On Saturday, the Belen Eagles faced the Santa Teresa Desert Warriors in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Belen came out on top against Santa Teresa by a score of 44-32. Belen's win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Belen was led to victory by Danilynn Bob and Analeigha Wright . Bob scored 11 points, while Wright scored 11 points. Jaelynn Bob was another key contributor, scoring 7 points.
When it comes to explaining why Santa Teresa lost, one person who can't be blamed is Eden Longoria. Despite the final result, she scored 20 points along with 4 steals. Longoria scored a full 62.5% of Santa Teresa's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexia Moreno-Reneau, who scored 2 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
Belen's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Santa Teresa, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Belen will take on Manzano at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Santa Teresa will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Hot Springs at 7:00 p.m. on December 14th.
