Monroe-Woodbury is a perfect 8-0 against Valley Central since September of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Crusaders will challenge the Vikings at 4:30 p.m. Monroe-Woodbury is coming into the contest hot, having won their last eight games.
Monroe-Woodbury will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Newburgh Free Academy, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Crusaders breezed past the Goldbacks to the tune of 49-15 on Friday. The Crusaders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by 20 points or more this season.
ETHAN MALDONADO had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 112 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries, while also throwing for 147 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 81.8% of his passes. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 63 yards.
Monroe-Woodbury didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of NATHANIEL SHIM and RONALD CHAMBERS. SHIM got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Valley Central came up short against Beacon on Friday and fell 31-19.
Monroe-Woodbury will have to contain AJ Gonzalez as he made an impact in Valley Central's last game. He rushed for 95 yards and one score.
Monroe-Woodbury's record is now 8-1. As for Valley Central, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-7.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Monroe-Woodbury has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 182.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Valley Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 168.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
