Zack Poff breaks down the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 rankings.
The De La Salle (Concord, Calif.)
football team hopes to make quick work of San Ramon Valley (Danville, Calif.)
on Friday night. But not too quick.
The Spartans (8-0) have barely worked up a sweat the last two weeks, while recording home wins over Monte Vista (Danville) and Foothill (Pleasanton) by running clock scores of 55-0 and 55-10. Both games lasted well short of two hours. De La Salle, ranked 11th nationally by MaxPreps, had 525 yards by halftime of its win over a very good Monte Vista team.
Against Foothill, the Spartans ran off just 31 plays top pile up 402 yards. The running clock started in the second quarter. WATCH FRIDAY'S GAME: Click here
They'll likely get much more work against the Wolves (5-3), who feature Stanford-bound linebacker/strong safety Tristan Sinclair
, who has rushed for 842 yards and nine touchdowns. Senior quarterback Brandon Cammisa
has thrown for 904 yards and 11 touchdowns.
"San Ramon Valley always gives us problems," said De La Salle coach Justin Alumbaugh, referring specifically to a 28-27 De La Salle win over the Wolves in 2016. "They are aggressive and physical and very creative on offense. Plus (Sinclair) is a major problem."
The Wolves will have trouble slowing down the DLS varied attack. The Spartans have scored 26 touchdowns by 13 different players, led by junior running back Shamar Garrett
(100 carries, 877 yards, 6 TDs). Senior 4-star linebacker Henry To'oto'o
(469 yards rushing, 3 TDs) moves to the offensive side only in close games.
De La Salle has partnered with CBS Sports Digital to stream
nine of its 10 regular season game this season, including Friday's home
game. Pat O'Rourke, the voice of De La Salle, and 30-year journalist Damin Esper will call the action.
