Two dominant players in Javier Martinez and Nick Zarate are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Hidalgo Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the Jubilee Brownsville Titans at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Texas (Hidalgo is ranked 1085th, while Jubilee Brownsville is ranked 1086th).
Last Friday, Hidalgo strolled past Grulla with points to spare, taking the game 47-31.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Jubilee Brownsville's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 63-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Port Isabel. Jubilee Brownsville has not had much luck with Port Isabel recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Zarate, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 18 rebounds. Zarate is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hector Cortina, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Hidalgo's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-14. As for Jubilee Brownsville, their loss dropped their record down to 10-7.
Hidalgo came up short against Jubilee Brownsville in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 46-34. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Zarate, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds.
