Chicago Hope Academy made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Proviso East, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Chicago Hope Academy put the hurt on Proviso East with a sharp 21-1 victory on Friday. While Chicago Hope Academy didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Lina Wilson made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Chicago Hope Academy let Autumn Brown and Isa Medina run wild. Brown scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3, while Medina got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that Medina launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Lopez, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.
Chicago Hope Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .652. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Proviso East only posted a batting average of .000.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, Bishop McNamara was a bit more limited in their game on Saturday. They fell just short of Shepard by a score of 3-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Fightin' Irish in their meetings with the Astros: they've now lost three in a row.
Bridget Bertrand was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Rhaya DePaolo, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Chicago Hope Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Bishop McNamara, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
Both Chicago Hope Academy and Bishop McNamara just can't seem to miss. Chicago Hope Academy has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Bishop McNamara struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Chicago Hope Academy suffered a grim 17-0 defeat to Bishop McNamara in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Chicago Hope Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
