Belen is 1-7 against Highland since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Belen Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Highland Hornets at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, Belen took a serious blow against St. Pius X, falling 64-35. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Belen in their matchups with St. Pius X: they've now lost eight in a row.
Despite their defeat, Belen saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Analeigha Wright, who scored ten points, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaelynn Bob, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Highland was the victim of a tough 52-32 loss at the hands of St. Pius X on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Highland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while St. Pius X is ranked tenth).
Belen has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. As for Highland, they now have a losing record at 10-11.
Belen beat Highland 44-36 when the teams last played back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Belen since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
