The Thayer Central Titans will challenge the Freeman Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.
Thayer Central proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by three) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Cecilia, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Titans have posted since October 9th.
Thayer Central was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (108-103), but they still managed to win. The final score came out to 21-25, 25-22, 25-23, 17-25, 15-13.
Meanwhile, Freeman made easy work of Bergan Catholic on Saturday and carried off a 3-0 win.
Thayer Central better keep an eye on Addison Kastanek. She was instrumental in Freeman's win, getting 13 digs. Kastanek has been hot, having posted ten or more digs the last six times she's played.
Freeman was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least ten aces in six consecutive matchups.
Freeman's victory bumped their record up to 26-4. As for Thayer Central, their win bumped their record up to 27-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's match: Thayer Central has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.9 aces per game. However, it's not like Freeman struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.3 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Thayer Central beat Freeman 3-1 in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
