On Friday, the Summertown Eagles faced the Loretto Mustangs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Summertown fell 51-44 to Loretto. Summertown has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.
Despite the loss, Summertown had strong showings from Karlie Campbell, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds, and Abbie Shaffer, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Leading Loretto to victory were Ally Weathers and Jenny Clifton. Weathers scored 17 points, while Clifton scored 19 points. Weathers continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Weathers, who scored eight points.
Summertown's defeat dropped their record down to 16-5. As for Loretto, the win (which was their 16th in a row) raised their record to 17-1.
Summertown will be playing at home against Mt. Pleasant at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mt. Pleasant will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings (they are ranked 344th, while Summertown is ranked 19th). As for Loretto, they will head out on the road to challenge Lewis County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
