Baltimore City Division I recap Oct. 23, 2012
Mergenthaler Vo-Tech was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in Baltimore City Division I. The Mustangs beat Digital Harbor 31-6 earlier in the week.
Dunbar extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Poly, 28-0. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
Douglass's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Brandon Oliver threw for 151 and two touchdowns and Shaquille Woodland-Hunt had 59 yards receiving. On the ground Oliver chipped in 91 yards. Michael Owens helped Douglass' passing attack out by catching one ball for 55 yards.
Dashawn Carter made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Mighty Ducks beat Carver Vo-Tech. The 6-foot-1 senior pulled down one interception, forced one fumble, recorded one fumble and racked up two sacks.
Douglass' Oliver and Woodland-Hunt have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Oliver has thrown for 1248 yards this season, while Woodland-Hunt, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 30 catches for 409 yards. Hakeem Holland from Edmondson-Westside leads the league in rushing with 566 yards.
A big matchup in Baltimore City Division I this week will be when Patterson takes on the Red Storm. As it stands, the Clippers are in third, while Edmondson-Westside is in first.
Elwood Townsend's team took down the Bears 44-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Oliver in the win.
