Volleyball Game Preview: Staley Falcons vs. Shawnee Mission East Lancers

The Staley Falcons will be taking part in a tournament against the Shawnee Mission East Lancers at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Staley has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Shawnee Mission East will arrive with five straight victories.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Staley took on Liberty North on Thursday. The Falcons took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles.

While Staley ultimately came up short, they really made Liberty North work, particularly in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 20-25, 27-25, 25-21.

Staley's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Mia Brenner, who had 16 digs and four assists, and Madi Brewer, who had 13 digs and one assist. Brenner is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last six games she's played.

Meanwhile, Shawnee Mission East got the win against Shawnee Mission North on Thursday by a conclusive 3-0.

Shawnee Mission East was especially dominant in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 25-18, 25-14.

Staley's loss dropped their record down to 13-16. As for Shawnee Mission East, their win bumped their record up to 18-9.

Staley was able to grind out a solid victory over Shawnee Mission East in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, winning 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
