The Broughton Capitals were the 36-28 winner over the Leesville Road Pride when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Broughton took a 50-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Leesville Road on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Broughton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 301st, while Leesville Road is ranked 91st).
Despite the loss, Broughton still got an impressive performance from Kalajah Wright, who scored 20 points along with six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wright has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kyra Gustus, who scored nine points along with five steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Leesville Road to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chloe Fulk, who scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Fulk scored 15 or more points. Finley Lewis was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Broughton's defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Leesville Road, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Broughton will take on Sanderson at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sanderson is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak. As for Leesville Road, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Cardinal Gibbons at 6:30 p.m.
