GIRLS’ STATE TENNIS

4A

At Pueblo: Cheyenne Mountain will have finalists in five of the seven brackets on Saturday.

The Red-tailed Hawks will be represented in the championship matches at No. 2 singles (sophomore Sophie Zhou earned a title shot with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Niwot’s Tracy Yu) and No. 3 (sophomore Rose Katen advanced with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over George Washington’s Hannah Kenda).

Cheyenne Mountain also has finalists in Nos. 1, 2 and 4 doubles.

Sophomore Alyssa Sadri fell to Erie’s Nanoha Nakamura 6-2, 6-3 in a semifinal in No. 1 singles.

Sadri will play Niwot’s Saha Kolli for third place.

At Denver: Pine Creek junior Ava Lewis will play for third place on Saturday at No. 1 singles.

Lewis fell to top-seeded Caroline Daugherty of Valor Christian 6-3, 6-1 in the semifinals to open the day on Friday, but rebounded with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Legend’s Mia Scaife in the playback semis.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

At Overland High School: No. 6 Fountain-Fort Carson surged into the finals of the winner’s bracket, topping No. 2 Thornton 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 26-24, 25-21) on Friday.

The Trojans, who have defeated the teams seeded 3 and 2, will play No. 1 Mountain Vista at 11 a.m. Saturday. With a win, Fountain-Fort Carson would advance to the championship game. With a loss, the Trojans would still be ablet to battle back into the championship.

Fountain-Fort Carson is playing in the state tournament for the first time. The sport has been sanctioned by the Colorado High School Athletic Association for three years. The first two titles went to Discovery Canyon, also located in the Pikes Peak region.

GIRLS’ STATE SOCCER

5A

No. 8 Pine Creek 1, No. 9 Broomfield

At Pine Creek: A second-half goal pushed Pine Creek (11-2-2) into the quarterfinals, where it will face No. 1 Mountain Vista on Monday at JeffCo Stadium.

This was the seventh shutout in the past nine matches for the Eagles.

No. 10 Heritage 2, No. 7 Rampart 1

At D20 Stadium: Heritage built a 2-0 lead after a scoreless first half. Rampart (14-2) answered the second goal within a minute as Brooklynn Pollmiller scored but couldn’t find the equalizer.

No. 6 Colorado Springs Christian 3, No. 11 Fountain Valley 0

At SkyView Academy: CSCS (11-3-2) scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half, breaking a scoreless tie and propelling itself into the quarterfinals.

The high-powered offense from Fountain Valley (11-4) had scored 42 goals in its five previous matches.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

No. 6 Air Academy 16, No. 11 Golden 4

At Air Academy: Air Academy (11-4) blew past Golden (9-8) to advance to Tuesday’s quarterfinals.

The Kadets jumped to a 5-0 lead.
