The Ventura Cougars had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 78-62 win over Chaminade. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Ventura found their leader in underclassman Kailee Staniland, who scored 29 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Staniland has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Skyler Knight, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Ventura pushed their record up to 17-3 with that victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 26.29 points. As for Chaminade, their loss dropped their record down to 12-7.
Ventura will head out on the road to challenge Oxnard at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Oxnard knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matches -- so hopefully Ventura likes a good challenge. As for Chaminade, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Harvard-Westlake at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
