JJ Gugelman and Cannon Cooper were among the main playmakers for South Wake as the former posted 14 points in addition to three steals and three blocks and the latter scored 12 points. Those three blocks gave Gugelman a new career-high. Lawson Jurgens was another key player, putting up nine points and seven boards.
South Wake was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Guilford HomeSchool only racked up five.
Meanwhile, Durham Flight HomeSchool was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They fell 60-48 to Oak Forest. While losing is never fun, the Flight can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 577th, while the Warriors are ranked 121st).
South Wake will need to focus on slowing down Caden McDaniel, one of several Durham Flight HomeSchool players who made an impact when they last played. He put up nine points and four steals. McDaniel continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Henry Knight, who had 11 points and seven rebounds.
South Wake is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 84.1 points over those games. As for Durham Flight HomeSchool, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-23.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's contest: South Wake has been dynamite from deep this season, having nailed 36.5% of their three-pointers per game. It's a different story for Durham Flight HomeSchool, though, as they've only made 23.1% of their threes this season. Given South Wake's sizable advantage in that area, the Flight will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for South Wake against Durham Flight HomeSchool when the teams last played back in January, as the squad secured an 87-50 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Knight, who went 8-for-17 to rack up 20 points along with six boards and five steals.
