Basketball Recap: Crawford County Comes Up Short

Crawford County was the 63-37 winner over Academy for Classical Education when they last played one another back in February of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Crawford County Eagles fell just short of the Academy for Classical Education Gryphons by a score of 54-52 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Eagles have suffered since February 15, 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Crawford County lost, don't look at Tyler Smith. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Smith a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Brandon Seay, who posted nine points.

Even though they lost, Crawford County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matchups.

Academy for Classical Education's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaylon Davis, who went 6 of 7 on his way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Perry, who put up ten points and seven rebounds.

Crawford County now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Academy for Classical Education, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.

Crawford County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 69-49 loss against Wilkinson County on the 28th. As for Academy for Classical Education, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 73-38 defeat against Lovejoy on the 28th.
