Basketball Game Preview: MacArthur Brahmas vs. Winn Mavericks

The MacArthur Brahmas will square off against the Winn Mavericks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (MacArthur has four straight victories, Winn has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Tuesday, everything came up roses for MacArthur against Harlandale as the team secured a 68-39 win. The Brahmas have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Faith Thomas had an outrageously good game as she went 11 for 17 on her way to 27 points. That's the most points she has posted since back in December of 2023. Ellie Lee was another key player, going 5 of 12 on her way to 12 points along with eight boards and six steals.

Meanwhile, Winn took a blow against South San Antonio on Tuesday, falling 61-31. While losing is never fun, the Mavericks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1197th, while the Bobcats are ranked 573rd).

MacArthur has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 28.4 points. As for Winn, their loss dropped their record down to 4-22.

Everything came up roses for MacArthur against Winn in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 64-15 victory. In that game, MacArthur amassed a halftime lead of 35-9, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
